"History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme (Quilt 4)," 2017, by Ryan Leitner. Acrylic and solvents, canvas, 30" x 32".

Favoring materials that are fluid and fast moving, the paintings and video installations of Ryan Leitner offer a “quilted perspective” on identity – one that lives in many different spaces simultaneously. Leitner mixes mediums like the ancient print practice of water marbling with modern digital printing to explore his history in a military clan and tell the post-Internet story: The Individual without country, cut adrift from traditional moorings.

Since receiving his MFA from The Museum School at Tufts University, Ryan Leitner has been commissioned by organizations like the Plumbing Museum in Watertown, MA, and participated in several group shows. In 2018, Leitner will have two solo exhibitions – at Area Gallery in Boston and at the SoHo Hotel in LA. He will also curate a showcase for Northeastern University.
