Hilarie started to draw at the age of two. She drew faces that resembled Keenes’ sad eye kids from the sixties, ballet dancers and horses.  Her love of art continued through high school, and she entered college at Washington University in St. Louis in medical illustration. She quit after two years, discouraged that the core classes for her major had nothing to do with art. She hitchhiked out to San Fransisco to draw portraits in charcoal and pastel on the streets and traveled around the country trying to make a living at this. As life took over she ended up working in different fields to make ends meet. In 2010, Hilarie got a degree in historic building preservation which opened her eyes to a renewed artistic path. After abandoning her art for over thirty years, she started  painting and is attempting to make up for lost time. Now a full time artist, she seeks creativity daily. She has attended many workshops and is influenced by the Impressionist movement; a style that resonates with her own journey as a fine artist. She teaches workshops herself now and has been showing work in various galleries and businesses in the Portland/Vancouver area.
