Calling all artists from the Tri-State Area:
In an effort to continue our mission of engaging artists and providing them accessible exhibit space to highlight their work, RAA is pleased to announce the opening of our very first Solo Show Competition.
The Solo Show Competition is open to RAA member AND non-member artists. It is open to any subject matter and all artistic mediums are welcome. Both 2D and 3D artists are encouraged to submit their best work for consideration.
Winning artists will be able to exhibit their very own solo show at RAA’s sTudio 6 Gallery for 3 weekends at no cost. Our gallery is uniquely located at Fort Tilden, which is part of Gateway National Recreation Area at Rockaway Point, New York right along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
The winning artist will have their solo show on MAY 12 – 27 (3 weekends)
The competition will be judged by Edward Coppola.
About the Judge: Edward Coppola is a photographer, sculptor, painter and collagist from Staten Island, New York. He received his MFA from Brooklyn College in 1998. Coppola is an Adjunct Assistant Professor and Chief College Laboratory Technician in photography at Brooklyn College.

DEADLINE: THURSDAY, MARCH 1, 2 PM
ENTRY FEE: $50 (Entry fee is non-refundable)
– Proposal – Presentation of your vision for your solo show (maximum of 1000 words)
– Artist statement (maximum of 200 words)
– Digital Images – Include a CD or flash drive containing a maximum of 10 digital images that reflect your body of work and support your solo show idea.
o Images should be in jpg or png format (at least 150 dpi)
o Files should be labeled as LastName00.jpg (example: smith05.jpg)
o Artists may also email images to email@example.com.

Winning artist will be awarded the following:
– Usage of RAA’s sTudio 6 Gallery (100 feet wall space) for 3 weekends (May 12 – 13, 19 – 20, 26 – 27) to exhibit their very own solo show at no cost
– Exposure in our social media streams, e-newsletter and website
Our gallery is uniquely located at Fort Tilden, which is part of Gateway National Recreation Area at Rockaway Point, New York right along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
To avoid delays in schedule, RAA requests that selected artist confirm whether they accept or decline the award within 5 days of notification.
Winning artist must sign indemnification and liability agreement.
RAA will assist with installation and any other arrangements, if needed.
Winning artist is encouraged to host an opening reception. All costs paid for by artist.
RAA will promote your event on RAA social media streams and e-newsletter. Any additional publicity is to be paid for by artist.
Artist permits RAA to use images of their artwork for press purposes.
A 20% donation is due to RAA on all sales
Gallery Sitting – As we are a non-for-profit arts organization, we rely on members, artists and volunteers to keep our buildings open. We kindly request winning artist to be present during gallery hours for the duration of their solo show. During gallery sitting days, artist may conduct a mini-reception, artist demonstration, workshop, or just simply create projects in the gallery.
Gallery Hours: Saturdays & Sundays, 12 pm – 4 pm
Since 1995, Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) has encouraged and engaged individuals, particularly youth and seniors, in the arts and cultural activities on the Rockaway peninsula. Based in Fort Tilden, RAA is renowned for comprehensive arts and cultural programming. RAA has served as Rockaway’s premier art venue for two decades, with exhibitions in the galleries ranging from multimedia showcases to solo shows. In addition to art exhibits, RAA fosters the growth and exposure of many local and nonlocal performers with regularly scheduled musical events. Community programs include year-round arts education programs for children such as camp kidsmART, the kidsmART after-school program and art classes. For adults, classes range from painting to yoga and printmaking in the newly built printmaking studio.
