MLK50: Beyond the Balcony | Call to Artists

In collaboration with the National Civil Rights Museum, Art Village Gallery, located in downtown Memphis TN, will join the city-wide celebration honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination.

The exhibition, “Beyond the Balcony” will feature works by artists of multi-racial and multi-cultural backgrounds who unite to examine **solutions to social, political and economic injustice. The **theme and focus is one of **ascending above and beyond the past. Artists are challenged to create artwork that explores the importance of motivating and activating positive change that will answer the question **”where do we go from here?”
Each artist has a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing social and political discussion by using art as a platform to inform and influence the perspective of others.

Submission Deadline: December 1, 2018
Exhibition Dates: Thursday, March 29, 2018 – May 26, 2018
Public Opening Reception: Friday, March 30, 2018

Only works on canvas and sculptures will be accepted.
