As you know, we’ve recently changed the name of the magazine from Art Calendar to Professional Artist. Our first issue of Professional Artist will be out on newsstands this week, but we wanted to give you an opportunity to download it here.
Professional Artist is dedicated to providing fine artists from all backgrounds with the insights, encouragement and business strategies they need to make a living. If you’ve never read the publication before, the primary question going through your mind may be, “Must I sacrifice my artistic integrity in order to make a living with my art?” The short answer, and the philosophy on which we base all of our editorial content, is, no. Your integrity and vision are integral to your success, both personally and professionally. Our intention is not to encourage you to follow new sales trends or mimick the next “hot” artist, but rather to hone your unique voice, strengthen your communication and business skills, and find the audience that will best appreciate the artwork that you create.
One of my favorite quotes is from the great painter James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903), who said, “An artist is not paid for his labor but for his vision.” Throughout history, artists have challenged accepted viewpoints, recognized and reflected the beauty in things before anyone else did, and pushed society toward something greater. As a professional artist, you are part of that legacy.
For those of you who have been subscribers for many years, your new issue should be arriving in your mailbox shortly. You’ll be pleased to know that our regular contributors are still with us, as well as a few new experts, providing engaging content packaged together in a cleaner design. We’ve specifically tailored this issue to those of you who want to take your art career to the next level, with the ultimate goal of envisioning a plan that will help you achieve creative and financial independence. Be sure to check out some of the back issues of Art Calendar, which we frequently reference and have available for download. Enjoy the issue!
