Nathan Bertling

The eldest of four children, Nathan Bertling was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1974. A sensitive, studious child, he was nonetheless a talkative, rough-and-tumble boy. Bertling’s childhood was spent exploring the rolling, spacious yards of all his neighbors. “I remember clearly the woods and creeks and my favorite climbing trees; bike rides and fireflies and the rundown tool shed we hid behind.”

Berling has been working as a professional artist since 2008. “Enchanted by the medium of oils, I now hope to enlarge my own work to a fully human scale: to create images that take up the particular and the local sacramentally, slowly pulling every edge towards wholeness.”
