The Painting Center, a non-profit, artist-run art gallery in Chelsea is looking for new members. The gallery is governed by its artist members, with an advisory board of alumni and supporters. The membership is responsible for organizing the calendar of exhibitions, maintaining financial stability, voting on new members, and carrying out The Painting Center’s mission. There are 15-22 members of The Painting Center at one time. As members leave, new or returning members are admitted by a majority vote based on viewings of the artists’ work. The membership dues are $240 per month. As a new member, you can expect to have a two-person exhibition in the Main Gallery within 24 months of your membership initiation. You can expect to have a one-person exhibition in the Main Gallery within 48 months following your initiation. In addition to exhibition opportunities, all members are represented on the gallery website, receive administrative/marketing support, and in connection with exhibitions have opportunities to give artist talks and participate in curatorial projects, panel discussions and other educational events. Membership meetings are held once a month. It is important to attend at least 6 meetings a year and participate fully in the operation of the gallery by joining at least two committees. Committees are maintenance, membership, finance, executive, exhibition, scheduling, fundraising and publicity. If you are interested, please submit your website to the current membership for review. This is the first step in the process of becoming a candidate for membership. After reviewing your website, you may be invited to come to The Painter Center to present your work.
